！ Sjogren's syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune disease that mainly involves exocrine glands, and its clinical manifestations are complex and diverse, in addition to dry mouth and dry eyes as the main manifestations"The complexity of SS can be seen from many aspects, first of all, its pathogenesis is not clear, it is currently believed that viral infection, epithelial cells release antigen-excited immune response, a large number of lymphocyte infiltration, so that epithelial cells damage, secretion function decline, resulting in salivary glands, tear gland function loss, causing dry mouth and eye dry symptoms, in addition to the pathogenesis also involves a variety of immune cells and cytokines (see Figure 1) [3].
Explore innovative treatments for SS
Innovative treatment strategies and drug explorations have undoubtedly received the most attention in clinical studies on SS, but the development of SS therapeutics has also suffered many setbacks, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α inhibitors, IL-6 inhibitors, JAK inhibitors, and B cell activator receptor (BAFF-R) inhibitors, all of which have not achieved positive results in clinical studies [5-6].
