Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that poses an increasing threat to human health, and there is still a lack of satisfactory treatments
OBJECTIVE: To verify the therapeutic effect of Chinese herbal formula Dihuangyin (DHY) on PD mouse model, and to explore its potential molecular mechanism
Methods: The effect of DHY on 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced PD mouse model was verified by behavioral and histopathological tests
Results: DHY improved motor function and prevented the loss of dopaminergic neurons in an MPTP-induced PD mouse model
Compared with MPTP-intoxicated mice, the number of Th17 cells in splenocytes in DHY group decreased, and the level of IL-17A in serum decreased
Conclusions: Although the underlying pharmacological mechanism of DHY is still lacking, this study provides evidence that DHY decoction can protect dopaminergic neurons by reducing peripheral inflammation
