Pfizer has recalled several batches of blood pressure drugs on the grounds that they cause cancer
According to Reuters, on April 22, the US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer announced that it would recall five batches of the antihypertensive drug "Akpril"
Pfizer said it has not identified any reports of adverse events related to the recalled batches
Pfizer Canada also on Thursday recalled all batches of three doses of Akupril after it was found to contain higher than acceptable levels of the same impurity
Pfizer said nitrosamines have been found in the drug, but patients taking the drug are not at immediate risk
Nitrosamines are common in water and food, but chronic intake of nitrosamines above acceptable levels increases the risk of cancer
Pfizer last month also recalled some batches and two authorized cheaper versions of another blood pressure drug, Accuretic, because it may contain carcinogens
