World Agrochemical Network Chinese report: Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare of India released the latest report
on pesticide consumption in India for 2021-2022.
According to the report, India's pesticide consumption from 2021 to 2022 was 58,720.
    12 metric tons, a decrease of 5.
    58%
    from the previous year.
At the same time, pesticide consumption decreased by 4.
    89%
between 2021 and 2022 compared to the average of the past 4 years.

Two Indian states saw exponential increases in pesticide use between 2021 and 2022, one Gujarat, up 19% from the previous year, and the other Andhra Pradesh, which increased 13%
    from the previous year.
The largest pesticide consumption was in Maharashtra (13,175 metric tons), followed by Uttar Pradesh (11,688 metric tons) and Telangana (5,090 metric tons).

Reasons for the decrease in pesticide consumption

According to industry experts, there are two main reasons for
    the decrease in pesticide consumption.
In 2021-2022, the incidence of pests and diseases in staple crops such as rice, soybeans, wheat and cotton was low, leading to a decline
    in consumption.
In addition, due to the current low commodity prices, farmers are trying to control the cost
of planting by reducing the number of pesticide sprays.
They are trying to find ways to spray pesticides all at once, without having to spray
    them multiple times.
At the same time, the government is also promoting natural agriculture and limiting the use of agrochemicals
    .
However, it will take several years to transition
from reduced pesticide consumption to natural agriculture.
