According to customs statistics, China will import 1.
84 million tons of fishmeal in 2021, an increase of 28% over 2020, and the import value will increase by 40% to US$2.
    75 billion
    .

James Frank, general manager of Peruvian fishmeal exporter MSIceres, told UCN: "The growth in demand for fishmeal in China is mainly due to the recovery of the pig industry from ASF, and the Peruvian fishmeal industry has played an important role in boosting bilateral trade
    .
    "

According to Frank, the first anchovy season in Peru will start from April to May this year.
As of last week, Chinese buyers had booked more than 145,000 tonnes of fishmeal.
At present, the CNF of Peruvian super fishmeal is stable at $1,820/t, and China is out of stock.
Offers are at CNY 12,150/t ($1,899/t)
    .

In 2021, China will import about 1 million tons of fishmeal from Peru, a year-on-year increase of 56%
    .
Given the current high domestic fishmeal stocks (160,000 tons at the beginning of this year, compared with about 110,000 tons at the same time last year, IFFO data shows), Frank expects imports to drop by around 10% this year
    .

In 2021, Peru will export 1.
2 million tons of fishmeal, an increase of 44% over the previous year, of which more than 80% are sold to China
    .

Frank said that despite strong export demand, international freight costs have risen sharply, squeezing traders' profit margins
    .
Freight rates from Peru to Japan have risen from $50/ton to $170/ton, and European rates have risen from $80 to $200-300
    .
In addition, many international routes often face problems such as rotation and cancellation, and the available positions are relatively limited
    .

At present, Peruvian researchers have gone out to sea to carry out anchovy biological research, and it is expected that the fishing quota will be released at the end of March or early April
    .

Frank revealed that according to research by NASA and oceanographers, a weak La Niña phenomenon was found in the Peruvian waters this year, and the water temperature was lower than normal
    .

Usually, the fishing season will be delayed due to abnormal weather, and the authorities will only allow the anchovies to spawn before opening the fishing
