Recently, the team of Professor Deng Xuliang from the Special Clinic Department of Peking University Stomatological Hospital, in cooperation with the team of Academician Jiang Lei and Professor Guo Lin of Beihang University, and Professor Nicholas A.
Kotov of the University of Michigan, USA, have made achievements in the preparation and performance of enamel-like composite materials.
    important progress
    .

The research results are titled "Multi-scale Construction of Artificial Tooth Enamel" in the form of a report, which will be published online in the international authoritative journal Science on February 4 , 2022

Tooth enamel is the hardest natural biological material in the human body, only slightly less hard than diamond, comparable to crystal, and has excellent resistance to deformation and vibration damage despite being only a few millimeters thick
    .

Its superior mechanical strength and toughness allow our teeth to cut and grind food with ease

In this study, a multi-scale enamel-like composite synthesis route based on "macro synthesis and controllable assembly of nanostructural units" was designed, and the controllable preparation of enamel-like composites with the most similar structure to tooth enamel was realized
    .

The multi-level enamel-like composites prepared in this study achieved high stiffness (105GPa), high hardness (5.
    9GPa), high viscoelasticity (VFOM, 5.

This research was funded by the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China
    .

    Prof.

Deng Xuliang, Professor, Chief Physician, Doctoral Supervisor, Distinguished Professor of the “Changjiang Scholars” of the Ministry of Education, winner of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and a leading talent of the National “Ten Thousand Talents Program”.
Deputy Director of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Director of the Key Laboratory of Oral Materials of the State Food and Drug Administration, Deputy Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Oral Biomaterials and Digital Diagnosis and Treatment Equipment, Deputy Director of the Beijing Laboratory of Biomedical Materials, and National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases Deputy Director
    .

He was awarded the "National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker", the Youth Award of the 3rd "Shulan Medical Award", and the Youth Award of the 11th "Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award"
