Recently, researchers at Xiangya School of Public Health of Central South University found that drinking alcohol in the first three months of pregnancy increases the risk of congenital heart disease in fetuses, especially fathers.
team analyzed 55 studies from 1991 to 2019, including 41,747 cases of congenes and 297,587 healthy infants. It was found that mothers who had a drinking experience or even a drinking habit had a 16 per cent increased risk of coronary heart disease in their offspring compared to non-drinking mothers, and a 44 per cent increased risk of coronary heart disease in their offspring if their fathers drank alcohol during pregnancy.
