Fitness and health: The governor of Oregon said she will deploy as many as 1,500 National Guard soldiers to hospitals across the state to support medical staff because of the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the delta mutant virus.
Democratic Governor Kate Brown, he said that the first batch of 500 guards will be deployed next Friday to serve as transporters of supplies and equipment in the worst-hit hospitals and to assist in COVID-19 testing and other tasks
As of Friday, a total of 733 people in Oregon were hospitalized due to the virus, including 185 in the intensive care unit, which is more than 60 more than the day before and almost double the number two weeks ago
Brown said: "For all Oregonians, especially those in need of emergency and intensive care, I can't emphasize the severity of this crisis too much
According to the Oregon Department of Health, the Delta variant now accounts for 96% of all tested samples, compared to only 15% six weeks ago
"The harsh, the governor said, the frustrating reality is that the Delta variant changed everything
Oregon was once considered a successful case of a pandemic, but as the highly contagious delta variant gains a foothold in counties with lower vaccination rates, this progress has gradually disappeared in recent weeks
Amid the surge, Brown has required all students and faculty at K-12 schools to wear masks when classes resume later this month, regardless of the vaccination situation
But earlier this week, the hospital warned that the record number of hospitalizations for the virus in Oregon is pushing them to the limit, and some hospitals have begun to postpone treatment for non-new crown epidemics
All hospitals in Jackson County and Josephine County in the southwestern corner of the state are operating at full capacity, and the corridors and emergency rooms are overcrowded on gurneys
"This is the worst situation our hospital has seen, and it may be the worst ever
Approximately 29% of adults in Oregon are not vaccinated, and more than 102,000 doses of vaccine are discarded because they are not used
