According to a report on the US "Popular Science" website on the 6th, preliminary clinical data provided by South African hospitals indicate that the mutant strain of the new coronavirus Omi Keron may not be more dangerous than other mutant strains
The South African Medical Research Council recently released a report outlining the status of Omi Keron patients diagnosed in several hospitals
Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in an interview with American media: “This information sounds encouraging, but Omi Keron’s risk prediction is still incomplete
The data from the South Africa report also shows that most of the patients are young people
Marion Koopmans, head of virology at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, said that although Omi Keron seems to cause milder symptoms, scientists need to study the effects of Omi Keron on different age groups
However, the sample number of reports from South Africa is limited
At present, there are at least 45 countries in the world with confirmed cases of Ome Keron, and 16 states in the United States have confirmed cases
