Diagnose and treat big and small problems, see what the guidelines say
[Clinically based consensus on multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of obesity (2021)]:
What are the diagnostic types of obesity?
1.
Primary obesity and secondary obesity can be divided into two categories: primary obesity and secondary obesity
according to different etiologies.
- Primary obesity, also known as simple obesity, refers to obesity caused solely by genetic and lifestyle factors, which may be related to
factors such as genetics, diet and exercise habits. - Secondary obesity accounts for about 1% of obesity, which refers to obesity caused by other clearly diagnosed diseases, such as thalamus, pituitary inflammation, tumors and trauma, Cushing's syndrome, hypothyroidism, hypogonadism, polycystic ovary syndrome, etc.
, and iatrogenic obesity refers to obesity
caused by other drugs and treatments in the process of treating the disease.
2.
Peripheral obesity and central obesity fat distribution is strongly correlated with endocrine and metabolism, therefore, clinically obesity is divided into peripheral obesity (also known as systemic obesity, uniform obesity) or central obesity
according to different fat accumulation sites (also known as abdominal obesity, visceral obesity).
- Peripheral obesity location and characteristics: mainly accumulated in the limbs and subcutaneous, lower body fat more, also known as "pear-shaped obesity", more common in women
. - The location and characteristics of central obesity: fat accumulation in the trunk and abdomen, visceral fat increases, waist becomes thicker, limbs are relatively thin, mostly called "apple-shaped obesity", this type of obesity is more prone to metabolic syndrome such as diabetes, more common
in men.
3.
Other diagnostic typing criteria:
- Visceral fat accumulation is strongly correlated with metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases, and can lead to abnormal function of organs such as fatty heart, fatty liver, fatty kidney, and fatty pancreas
.
Also known as morbid obesity
. - According to the time of occurrence of obesity, it is divided into simple obesity and acquired obesity
. - According to the diseases associated with obesity, it is divided into metabolic normal obesity and metabolic abnormal obesity
. - Obesity is graded according to body mass index (BMI), and can also be divided into mild, medium and severe obesity according to the number of metabolic abnormalities and complications associated with obesity
.
- A domestic multi-center study uses artificial intelligence machine learning methods to divide obesity into metabolic health obesity, high metabolic obesity-high uric acid subtype, high metabolic obesity-high insulin subtype and low metabolic obesity
.
The latest American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists/American Endocrine Society jointly recommends the use of a new obesity diagnosis system-based chronic disease classification based on obesity (group A code represents the cause of obesity, group B code represents BMI, group C code represents obesity-related complications, and group D code represents the severity of complications).
