A new study shows that three new gene variants that regulate arterial gene expression are related to fibromuscular dysplasia
    .
Fibromuscular dysplasia is a disease of the arteries that can have dangerous consequences for the heart and blood vessels

    .

The research results published in Nature Communications by an international team of foot-and-mouth disease experts from the United States and Europe also confirmed the importance of the fourth genetic target that has been confirmed to be related to foot-and-mouth disease
    .

"We used to think that hand-foot-mouth disease is a rare disease, but the current estimate is that it may affect more than 3% of the population," said the article's second and co-corresponding author Sandra Jean Ganesh, MD, Internal Medicine Associate Professor of Medicine and Human Genetics and Cardiologist at the University of Michigan Health Frankel Cardiovascular Center
    .
"We continue this research in order to better understand the cause of foot-and-mouth disease, which is crucial

    .

The researchers pointed out that the identified genes indicate that the genetic basis of FMD may be through changes in the structure and function of vascular smooth muscle cells

    .

It is worth noting that these genetic findings point to a correlation with several more common cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, migraine, intracranial aneurysm, and subarachnoid hemorrhage
    .
This is negatively related to atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, and ischemic stroke (which also often affects patients with foot-and-mouth disease) has no common inheritance

    .

"These findings provide new biological insights for further study of this interesting situation, genes and pathways to determine the therapeutic target of foot-and-mouth disease," said co-senior and co-corresponding author Dr.
Nabila Bouatia-Naji, a French national researcher The research director of Santé et la Recherche Médicale, also known as INSERM, is the team leader of the Paris Cardiovascular Research Center
    .

Ganesh and Bouatia-Naji’s team combed through the genome-wide association study data of more than 1,500 foot-and-mouth disease cases and compared them with more than 7,000 control samples from non-foot-and-mouth disease participants
    .
The three new genes related to FMD are ATP2B1, LRP1 and LIMA1, and the fourth gene that has been confirmed is PHACTR1

    .

"This is the most comprehensive genetic survey of foot-and-mouth disease so far, and it was made possible through the joint efforts of our international research team," Ganesh pointed out
