New study: high proportion of long-term symptoms in patients with new crown |
Xinhua News Agency, London, October 3 (Reporter Guo Shuang) A new study led by the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom showed that more than one-third of patients with COVID-19 still have at least one long-term symptom within 3 to 6 months after infection
.
These long-term symptoms include breathing problems, abdominal symptoms, fatigue, pain, anxiety, or depression
Previous studies on the long-term symptoms of COVID-19 were mostly based on patients’ own reports or small-scale surveys.
This new study published in the "Public Library of Science and Medicine" is based on the health records of more than 270,000 COVID-19 patients in the United States.
Data
.
Researchers from Oxford University and the UK National Institute of Health and other institutions analyzed the data and found that about 57% of new crown patients reported at least one long-term symptom within 6 months after infection, and 37% of the patients’ long-term symptoms were after infection It still exists for 3 to 6 months
.
Studies have also shown that multiple factors such as the severity of the new crown infection, the age and gender of the infected person will affect the long-term symptoms that patients may experience
.
For example, long-term symptoms are more common in hospitalized patients and female patients
However, the researchers also pointed out that this study has limitations.
For example, it only focuses on the 9 most common long-term symptoms of patients with new crowns, while previous studies have shown that about 200 long-term symptoms have been found
.
Therefore, the researchers said that the "reported incidence" of long-term symptoms of the new crown may actually be underestimated
According to estimates by the National Statistics Office of the United Kingdom, about 970,000 Britons continue to experience symptoms after contracting the new crown
