Recent studies have found that female-specific reproductive history events may be the biological basis for the higher prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in women
    .

The preclinical evidence of the neuroprotective effect of estrogen also suggests that there is a link between female fertility and AD

Recent studies have found that female-specific reproductive history events may be the biological basis for the higher prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in women

    Lisa Mosconi et al.

The study used reproductive history data, neuropsychological tests, and volumetric MRI scans to evaluate 99 cognitively normal women aged 52±6 years and 29 men aged 52±7 years old
    .

Use multiple regression to test the correlation between reproductive history indicators, voxel gray matter volume (GMV), memory, and overall cognitive scores, and adjust demographics and middle-aged health indicators

The study used reproductive history data, neuropsychological tests, and volumetric MRI scans to evaluate 99 cognitively normal women aged 52±6 years and 29 men aged 52±7 years old

Compared with men, all menopausal groups had lower GMV in AD susceptible areas, and the GMV of temporal lobe cortex in the perimenopausal and postmenopausal groups was also lower than that in the premenopausal group

    .

Reproductive span, number of children and pregnancy, HT and HC use are positively correlated with GMV, mainly in temporal cortex, frontal cortex, and precuneus , independent of age, APOE-4 status and middle-aged health indicators
    .

Although there is no direct relationship between reproductive history indicators and cognitive measurement, temporal GMV is positively correlated with memory and overall cognitive scores

Reproductive span, number of children and pregnancy, HT and HC use are positively correlated with GMV, mainly in temporal cortex, frontal cortex, and precuneus , independent of age, APOE-4 status and middle-aged health indicators

The study showed that more estrogen-exposed reproductive history events, such as premenopausal status, longer reproductive span, more children, use of HT and HC, are associated with greater GMV in middle-aged women
