According to reports, small fiber neuropathy (SFN) is a common disease, with a population prevalence of 53/100,000 in a large study
.
The typical painful nature of symptoms, autonomic involvement, and the lack of data surrounding clinical features and results can be distressing for patients
According to reports, small fiber neuropathy (SFN) is a common disease, with a population prevalence of 53/100,000 in a large study
Many early studies of SFN alone or in combination did not include longitudinal results, detailed neurological examination, and did not exclude patients with simple glomerular disease
Recently, studies have evaluated the incidence and prevalence of SFN patients without large fiber involvement (simple) at onset, and longitudinally evaluated patients’ comorbidities, cumulative neurological damage (physical and autonomous), and disability from the perspective of the population.
The researchers compared SFN patients confirmed by tests in Olmsted, Minnesota and neighboring counties with a matched control group (January 1, 1998 to December 31, 2017) in a 3:1 comparison
.
.
- During the study period, 94 SFN patients were identified, with an incidence rate of 1.
3/100,000 per year and a prevalence rate of 13.
3/100,000
.
The average follow-up was 6.
Isolated SFN is not common, but the incidence is increasing
