Despite the lower degree of disability, young people with pediatric multiple sclerosis (POMS) engage in less
physical activity than their peers.
In addition to the health control group, young patients
diagnosed with MS before the age of 18 and ≤ 21 years of age were recruited.
Adolescents with POMS showed slower 6 mW performance and less daily medium-intensity physical activity, suggesting limitations in functional walking ability, endurance, and daily activity behavior
.
The study provides class III evidence that children with multiple sclerosis who started multiple sclerosis had shorter walking distances on the 6-minute walk test, had less ability to accelerate to peak speed at the end of the test, and were less physically active than the healthy control group
