    On September 5, 2022, Sheng Xing of Tsinghua University, Xiaojian Li of the Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Wang Shirong of Beijing Institute of Technology jointly newsletterd at Nature Biomedical Engineering (IF=29) entitled "Bioresorbable thin-film silicon diodes for the optoelectronic excitation and inhibition of neural activities" research paper demonstrating that bioresorbable thin-film monocrystalline silicon pn diodes can be used to photo-excited or inhibit neural activity


    Under laser irradiation, the silicon diode photointerface allows for deterministic depolarization or hyperpolarization of cultured neurons and up-regulated or down-regulated intracellular calcium dynamics
