"The virus doesn't seem to care about alpha interferon,"Iwasaki said. this cytokine seems to be harmful, not helpful. another early predictor of poor prognosis " is the activation of inflammatory body (inflammasome), a protein complex that detects pathogens and triggers inflammatory responses to infection. inflammatory body activation is associated with poor outcomes and death in some patients. the authors found that people who responded better to COVID-19 infection tended to express high levels of growth factor, a cytokine that repairs damage to blood vessels and tissue in the lining of the lungs. , these data can help predict high-risk patients with poor outcomes. they also said that drugs targeting specific inflammatory causes found in the study may help treat patients at risk of developing cases of severe COVID-19.
