February 7, 2021 /--- -- Scientists at the Francis Crick Institute recently found significant structural similarities between SARS-CoV-2 and the coronavirus, suggesting that the coronavirus can infect humans.
SARS-CoV-2 is thought to have evolved from bat coronavirus, the exact evolutionary path remains a mystery.
's history is challenging because there may be many as yet undiscovered bat coronavirus, and because of the differences between bat coronavirus and SARS-CoV-2, it is thought that the virus may have spread to humans through at least one other species.
study publish.com ed in Nature Communications, scientists compared SARS-CoV-2, the most similar bat coronavirus raTG13 and the structure of the coronavirus isolated from a roller coaster, in a study published in Nature Communications.
they found that the body armor-wearing virus can bind to roller-snringe and human subjects.
this is different from bat coronavirus, which cannot be effectively combined with a human or roller-coaster-wearer.
, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of London, said: "By testing whether the prickly protein of a given virus binds to cellular ligenes of different species, we can theoretically see if the virus can infect the species."
importantly, we have demonstrated two key areas.
, the bat virus is unlikely to infect the roller coaster.
, the manicure virus may infect humans.
team used a frozen electron microscope to learn more about the structure of the carburest coronavirus prickly protein, which binds to cells and infects them.
that while some parts of the prickly meth virus have been found to be very similar to SARS-CoV-2, others are different.
in terms of understanding the evolutionary pathways of SARS-CoV-2, this work does not determine whether the cedar-penetring virus is definitely part of the SARS-CoV-2 evolutionary chain.
but the results do support the possibilities of how coronavirus jumps from bats to humans.
possible route is SARS-CoV-2 from another currently unknown bat coronavirus, which can infect the roller coaster and then transfer from the species to humans.
, RaTG13 or similar bat coronavirus may have merged with another coronavirus in an intermediate species other than a manicure.
"We still have no evidence of the evolutionary path of SARS-CoV-2 or clear evidence that the virus was indeed transmitted to humans through a roller coaster."
However, we have shown that the latha-penetring virus can be transmitted to humans, so we are careful to contact the species and to end illegal smuggling and the trade in roller coasters in order to prevent this danger.
