    Our reporter Zhu Meiqiao

Recently, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) jointly released the "China Agricultural Industry Development Report 2022" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") in Beijing

Agricultural production is still at risk

The "Report" pointed out that in 2021, due to the superposition of multiple factors such as the new crown pneumonia epidemic, extreme weather events, rising international energy prices, and geopolitical conflicts, international food prices will fluctuate sharply, resulting in increased global food supply imbalances and food security risks

According to the analysis of the "Report", from the perspective of the agriculture-food system's response to disaster risks, China's agriculture has shown strong resilience

"China's ability to prevent and control food crop diseases and insect pests has been continuously enhanced, and 'insects grab food' has achieved remarkable results in ensuring a bumper harvest, but the risk of alien invasion still needs to be guarded against

In addition, other agricultural risks remain

Transformation of meat consumption to healthy and low-carbon

With the improvement of residents' living standards, the consumption of meat, milk and eggs is increasing day by day, and food consumption is correspondingly reduced, but there are still problems in the structure of meat consumption in China

"Too much consumption of red meat and too little consumption of poultry meat is still a common phenomenon at present

The "Report" proposes a "Poultry Meat Doubling Plan" and conducts model simulations

Raising self-sufficiency rates to deal with international risks

The "Report" pointed out that, thanks to China's food security concept of "rations are absolutely safe and grains are basically self-sufficient", the current increase in international grain prices has little impact on China's rations and has a certain impact on the supply of feed grains

The "Report" shows that since 2010, the average self-sufficiency rates of rice, wheat, corn, and soybeans in China have been 99.

How to further increase the self-sufficiency rate and deal with the risks faced by my country's agriculture-food system? Mei Xurong introduced that efforts can be made from the three aspects of production, consumption and trade to improve the resilience of China's agricultural-food system

"China's agricultural trade with RCEP member countries accounts for about 30% of China's total agricultural trade
