The Scandinavian registration-based cohort study is part of the SCAN-AED project, a large study containing several
national health registries from Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden).
Hkon Magne Vegrim, MD and doctoral student and principal investigator at the University of Bergen, said: "We did not find an increased
risk of cancer in children of epileptic mothers who took large doses of folic acid.
Folic acid is important
for the normal growth of the fetus and brain development.
