More than 10,000 plant seeds are preserved in the Wildlife Germplasm Bank of Southwest China |
News from our newspaper (Reporter Gao Yali) On September 14th, the reporter learned from the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, that there are currently 10,601 species and 85,046 plant seeds stored in the Wildlife Germplasm Bank of Southwest China , accounting for the total number of flowering plant species in the country.
36% of the total, the long-term construction target approved by the state has been fully completed, so that the safety of China’s endemic species, rare and endangered species, and species with important economic, ecological and scientific research value will be effectively guaranteed, and the rapid and efficient research and utilization of wild biological germplasm resources This becomes possible and also lays a solid foundation for China to respond to international competition in the biological industry
.
.
The Southwest Wildlife Germplasm Bank of China began operation in 2007.
It is the only comprehensive preservation facility in China that focuses on the preservation of wildlife germplasm resources, and it is also the largest wild biological germplasm resource bank in Asia
.
At present, the germplasm resource bank has 2093 kinds and 24100 pieces of plant in vitro culture materials, 7324 kinds and 65456 pieces of DNA molecular materials, 2280 kinds and 22800 pieces of microbial strains and 2203 kinds and 60262 pieces of animal germplasm resources
According to Yu Fuqiang, a senior engineer at the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and deputy director of the Southwest Wildlife Germplasm Bank of China, in recent years, the Southwest Wildlife Germplasm Bank of China has been guided by the needs of national strategic biological resources and the frontiers of discipline development.
At the same time, the Southwest China Wildlife Germplasm Bank took the lead in launching and leading the completion of the tea plant genome project; establishing ultra-low temperature for more than 40 species of plants in Magnoliaceae, Gesneriaceae, Rutaceae, Orchidaceae, and Melanopsis (Chonglou) Conservation plan, in which Maitreya (Gesneriaceae) and Fumin Trifoliate (Rutaceae) are critically endangered species
In addition, the Wildlife Germplasm Bank of Southwest China has realized the sharing of basic botany information, resource preservation information, and preservation status and other information data and physical germplasm resources through relevant websites
