Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative brain disease
Recently, the team of Lai Ling, a researcher at the Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led the way to find that the expression of the antimicrobial peptide LL-37 increased significantly in the brain in AD patients, and further research found that LL-37 can induce chloride channel CLIC1 upregulation and membrane transfer, and activate CLIC1 to induce oxidative free radical production, glial cell overexcitement, neuroinflammation and so on
The study was recently published online in Molecular Psychiatry under the title "Human antimicrobial peptide LL-37 contributes to Alzheimer's disease progression" (article link https://doi.
