On September 1, METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection introduced two new product data checking technologies that can be integrated into the existing C Series checkweighers
.
New vision inspection add-on features enable manufacturers to fully integrate smart camera technology into existing production lines to confirm that the correct labels
are in place.
As a result, manufacturers can weed out packaged products that are not properly labeled, minimize the risk of product recalls, and protect brand reputation and profits from avoidable product
losses.
The new product data checking technology confirms different sizes of packaged product labels
on the same line for a variety of food and pharmaceutical applications.
For example, manufacturers that produce different flavors of ice cream or various baby foods can now check each label based on specific product data and remove substandard labels
.
The advantages are as follows:
♦ Since labeling errors are found before the packaged product reaches the secondary packaging stage, the rework time
that employees have to spend is minimized.
♦ It can be confirmed that only properly labeled packaged products can leave the production plant, reducing product recalls
.
This technique eliminates labels that do not display allergen information correctly according to pre-programmed standards
.
In addition, the technology can also confirm whether the correct label is affixed to
the corresponding packaging after the product is converted.
♦ Since it is now possible to relabel products that are not qualified or mislabeled, waste and associated costs
can now be reduced.
♦ Easy-to-use, pre-programmed inspection setup software increases operational efficiency
by reducing the line setup time required to configure new label inspections during product changeovers.
♦ Protect brand reputation from the negative impact
of poor quality packaging or labelled wrong products entering the market.
Label checks performed by the new technology include optical character recognition (OCR) and optical character verification (OCV), alphanumeric text, and 1D and 2D code recognition
.
Product digital inspection technology can detect a variety of languages and check allergens, etc.
to list ingredients in bold to ensure food safety and comply with the requirements of
the EU Labeling Directive 2000/13/EC.
Jürgen Kress, Head of Checkweighing and Visual Inspection in METTLER TOLEDO's Product Inspection Division, points out that "product recalls and rework due to mislabeling are an easily preventable problem
.
"To do this, we wanted to provide manufacturers with an easy way to be able to add product data validation capabilities to their existing METTLER TOLEDO equipment, allowing for additional quality control
with minimal line space.
" Product data inspection technology was developed in Germany and can be supplied in two different configurations depending on the shape of the product:Product data inspection
The visual inspection technology is suitable for positioning packaged products, i.
e.
with a clear front and back shape
.
Manufacturers can select up to three cameras to verify front, back, and top data
for each product.
A single human-machine interface (HMI) controls all cameras, while intuitive software makes it easy to switch
product features.
Multiple cameras can be easily placed on a checkweighing system or inspection device and supported with a simple bracket, saving valuable production space
.
Designed for circular products that can be rotated on a conveyor belt,
the Product Data Check 360 has a unique six-sensor configuration that generates a 360° view of the product label to verify its data
。 The product takes up less space and saves valuable line space, its housing has slopes and ip65 protection, and its hygienic design makes it ideal for wet and clean environments
.
