Numerous studies over the years have shown the health benefits of lilac and rosemary, but new research in mice suggests that antioxidants in lilac and rosemary can improve learning and memory when made into enhanced extracts and may help with age-related cognitive decline.
Susan Farr
,
of the
School of Medicine at St. Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri, presented her early findings at a conference on neuroscience
2013
, sponsored by the Society of Neuroscience.Professor Farr
tested the effects of new antioxidant extracts from lilac and rosemary on age-related cognitive decline in mice.higher doses of rosemary compounds were the most successful in terms of improved memory and learning in three behavioral tests., lower doses of rosemary and lilac extract compounds improved memory in both behavioral tests.also observed that the part of the brain that controls learning and memory in mice reduces oxidative stress, which she notes is a sign of age-related cognitive decline.although her research has yielded encouraging results, professor
Farr
does not recommend the heavy use of lilac and rosemary by individuals."
this may mean that eating lilac and rosemary is good for you. However, our experiments are only in animal models, but I don't know how much of these herbs people consume to improve learning and memory. In other words, I don't recommend that people chew more gum at this time.
”The benefits of rosemary and lilac aboundrosemary can add flavor to many foods, and new research suggests it may improve age-related learning and memory decline rosemary can be used to add flavor to poultry meat in many cookings, and even add extras to bread dough, one of which has many advantages, one of which is good health.not only rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, but also used to treat indigestion.a 2012
study showed that rosemary essential oils boost brain function, while another
2010
study suggested that adding these herbal extracts to cooking beef could reduce carcinogens formed during cooking., which is also rich in antioxidants and helps digestion, is said to have antifive fungi and is useful for treating mild hairyness in women.Professor Farr
her findings by saying:
"
Our study shows that extracts made from herbs can be beneficial in changing the process of age-related cognitive decline.
”She added that
"
this is worth further study."
