Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an immune disorder of the central nervous system that primarily affects women.
Immune sex hormones may play a role in this difference, but genes on the X chromosome may also have effects on the immune system independent of sex hormones
In the first part of the study, the aim was to quantify gender differences in relapse rates and disability accumulation, and how they depend on time since onset, current age and time of MS onset, through a complete nationwide cohort study age, these patients had received disease-modifying therapy (DMT) for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) or clinically isolated syndrome (CIS)
Since 1996, all patients with relapsing multiple sclerosis receiving disease-modifying therapy have undergone annual or semiannual control visits
Since 1996, all patients with relapsing multiple sclerosis receiving disease-modifying therapy have undergone annual or semiannual control visits
The weighted estimated marginal mean of the annualized recurrence rate and the ratio of male to female recurrence rates for patients still on treatment by sex
The first part of the study was a cohort follow-up study
The endpoints of the follow-up portion of this study were (1) gender differences in annualized recurrence rate (ARR) stratified by clinical onset time and current age; (2) gender differences in recorded EDSS scores by time since entry and current age Stratification; (3) Pyramidal and cerebellar functional systems reached disability endpoints EDSS 3, EDSS 4, and EDSS 6 since onset
Of these, we included 9647 patients (3028 males and 6619 females; female-to-male ratio, 2.
