Background and objective: The effectiveness of the treatment of early esophageal cancer (ESD) under the endoscopy is still debatedTherefore, the purpose of this study is to study itmethod: This single-center retrospective study was conducted at the International Cancer Institute in JapanBased on the following inclusion criteria, the researchers evaluated a total of 886 esophageal squamous cell carcinoma lesions in 749 patients between April 2005 and June 2015: whole removal of no residual lesions, and further classified tissues cut from the distance between the cancer and the edge of the specimen: B1, 1 mm, B2, and 1mmresults: 30 out of 39 lesions met the inclusion criteriaLocal recurrences occurred in 8 of the 30 lesions (26.7%)Local recurrence rates of Type A, B1 and B2 were 40% (6/15 lesions), 28.5% (2/7 lesions) and 0.0% (0/8 lesions), respectivelyConclusion: This study shows that cancer cells at the edge of the pathological tissue of patients with ESD are a useful predictor of local recurrence
