The study included new users of metformin or sulfonylurea with an estimated glomerular filtration rate of 60ml/min/1.
The weighted cohort included 24685 metformin-treated patients and 24805 sulfonylurea-treated patients with decreased renal function (median age was 70 years, estimated glomerular filtration rate was 55.
It can be seen that in patients with type 2 diabetes with worsening renal function, compared with sulfonylureas, continuous use of metformin can reduce the rate of hospitalization for heart failure.
