Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease.
it is associated with reduced oral health and impaired oral function, but there are few documented treatment options for dental disease, except for recommended dental visits and drooling treatment.
study aims to assess the effectiveness of standardized home exercise jaw opening and chewing procedures, as well as trained dentists to guide and control household oral hygiene measures.
29 patients with moderate to advanced PD (median age 65) participated in the project with informed consent.
they were followed up in neurology, able to cooperate, and had stable treatment, and nine people had deep brain stimulation.
interventions for individual oral hygiene guidance, jaw opening training (JawTrainer), lip and chewing exercises (Ulmer oral screening and Proxident fluoride).
the study was conducted in a randomized controlled study.
assess the effectiveness of treatment after 2 months and 4 months.
the main results are the largest unassisted jaw opening capacity, the chewing time of standard apple slices, and the simplification of the debris index.
the results are analyzed using Wilcoxon Matching and Mann-Whitney U tests (significance level P.lt; .05).
results showed that two months after the intervention, there was a marked improvement in jaw opening, chewing time and hygiene, at 6%, 49% and 25%, respectively, and still significantly after 4 months. No significant changes were found after the
2-month control period and no intervention was made.
in general, simple measures have substantial clinical and significant results, and although PD is progressive, it is promising.
