!---- recently published a study in journal Of Of, a journal of neurology, about whether apathy or depression is a predictor of dementia in patients with small vascular disease (SVD)researchers used two prospective cohort studies on SVD: StGeorge Cognitive and Stroke Neuroimaging (SCANS; n?121) and Nemegan Diffusion Algemoncy And Magnetic Resonance Cohorts (RUN DMC; n?352)in two data sets, the researchers used multiple Cox regressions with baseline apathy and depression scores to predict dementiaresearchers used longitudinal data from SCANS to predict dementia risk by changing values of apathy and depressionAll models incontrolled age, education and cognitive functionbaseline apathy scores in SCANNS (HR 1.49, 95% CI 1.05 to 2.11, p-0.024) and RUN DMC (HR is 1.05, 95% CI is 1.01 to 1.09, p-0.007) predict seist dementiaincreased apathy was associated with dementia in SCANNS (HR 1.53, 95% CI 1.08 to 2.17, p-0.017), on the contrary, changes in baseline depression and depression were not able to predict dementia in both data setsin the predictive model of dementia, apathy improves the fit of the modelit follows that apathy rather than depression may be a precursor to SVD dementia and may help identify high-risk groups.
