The optimal dosage regimen of dexamethasone in total hip arthroplasty (THA) is unclear
.
Recently, a randomized trial compared the effects of 1, 2, and 3 doses of dexamethasone in total hip arthroplasty.
The study included 150 patients who were randomized to receive a single dose of 10 mg dexamethasone (group A, 50 patients) before surgery, or another dose of 10 mg dexamethasone (group B, 50 patients) 24 hours later, or 24 Two more doses of 10 mg dexamethasone (group C, 50 patients) were received after hours and 48 hours
.
The main result is the degree of postoperative pain
The results showed that compared with group A, groups B and C had lower dynamic pain scores on the second and third days after surgery
.
On day 3 after surgery, there is also the difference between the group B and group C
In summary, the results of the study show that the additional use of dexamethasone after THA can provide continuous pain relief and inflammation control
.
In addition, in terms of analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, the 3-dose regimen is more effective than the 2-dose regimen
