Geneological Basis of Bipolar Disorder (pictured in Kunming Animals)
Recently, Li Ming, a researcher at the Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, first explored large samples of the genetic basis of bipolar disorder in the Han population in mainland China.
it is known that bipolar disorder is a complex mental illness with high heterogeneity and genetic power, and patients often exhibit emotional and cognitive impairments, which can seriously affect their normal life and even survival. However, the current academic understanding of the genetic basis and pathogenesis of bipolar disorder is still very limited, so that the current diagnosis and treatment of the disease are facing a series of difficulties, such as easy misdiagnosis, difficult to cure, drug response there are significant individual differences.
Existing studies have shown that genetic factors (such as DNA mutations, genes, etc.) play a key role in the development of bipolar disorder, and the existing genetic analysis of the disease has made some progress, but these studies are mainly concentrated in europe and the United States and Japan, based on the mainland of China's bipolar disorder genetic research is very few. Influenced by the environment and the historical dynamics of the population, the genetic background of different population groups often varies. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out genetic research on bipolar disorder in our population.
Li Ming rate team with a number of clinical and scientific research institutions across the country to carry out extensive cooperation, collected a total of 1822 patients with bipolar disorder and 4,650 cases of health control blood samples from various provinces and cities, carried out a genome-wide association (GWAS) analysis, and then in 958 bipolar disorder patients and 2050 health controls in the repeated validation experiments.
the study made a comprehensive exploration of the genetic risk carried by patients with bipolar disorder in China, and identified a number of disease-related variants and a risk gene TMEM108. The study also carried out meta-analysis and multi-gene risk scoring analysis of the disease in china's population and published European populations, and further identified a number of genes significantly related to bipolar disorder, while also confirming that bipolar disorder shared many important genetic risks among people in China and European populations.
results not only provide clues to understanding the genetic mechanism of the disease, but also confirm that bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, depression, cognitive function and other shared part of the genetic basis, for understanding the different mental illnesses and common esoteric underlying causes provide basic information.
