    International Finance Corporation assists Vietnam in preventing and controlling African swine fever

    (People's Daily) According to the Vietnam News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the World Bank International Finance Corporation (IFC) signed a memorandum of technical support for the prevention and control of the African swine fever epidemic in Vietnam on the afternoon of December 9
    .
    This memorandum aims to cooperate in the implementation of various content in the animal husbandry field in the technical support project for improving agricultural competitiveness during the 2021-2024 period managed and implemented by international financial organizations .
     
    According to the memorandum, IFC will assist to improve the legal framework and improve the ability to carry out measures such as animal husbandry biosecurity, control of African swine fever and common diseases in pig breeding, so as to help ensure sufficient pork supply in the domestic market and move towards building a biosafety and disease-free environment.

    Specifically, IFC will assist the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam to conduct on-site inspections, verify, research, and put forward recommendations for formulating, modifying, and supplementing legal documents, so as to promote animal husbandry biosecurity and prevent and control the African swine fever epidemic

    In addition, in accordance with international standards, pilots have established biosafety breeding and epidemic control models in some places and enterprises
    .

     
    Through various activities carried out in Vietnam, IFC shares international knowledge and experience in formulating and revising policies and launching pilot models, providing domestic and foreign experts for evaluation, research and discussion, and conducting training to improve the capacity of officials
    .
     
    In his speech at the signing ceremony, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam Feng Dejin said that animal husbandry is an important economic industry in agricultural production.
    It not only promotes economic growth and ensures food security, but also creates employment opportunities, giving hundreds of Ten thousand households bring income
    .
     
    At present, the contribution rate of the output value of animal husbandry to the total value of the agricultural industry is more than 25%, and the development potential of animal husbandry is still huge
    .
    However, Vietnam's livestock industry still has many shortcomings, which need to be overcome
    .

     
      Rana Karadsheh, IFC's agricultural production operations and services manager in the Asia-Pacific region, said that the outbreak of African swine fever in Vietnam in 2019 caused the destruction of a large number of live pigs in Vietnam, affecting the livelihoods of millions of farmers and the price of pork
    .
    The measures to prevent the epidemic are mainly to improve practice and carry out biosafety production
    .
    She also commented that the signing of the above memorandum will help Vietnam and the region establish a basis for resuming production after the African swine fever epidemic
