    Inflammatory cytokine levels can predict the prognosis of orthopedic trauma patients

    In this study, 58 patients with an average age of 40 years experienced severe bone, joint, and muscle damage, 6 patients (10%) developed pulmonary complications, and 5 patients (9%) had acute kidney injury


    The addition of the cytokine interleukin-6 to the patient prognosis prediction model (such as the so-called New Injury Severity Score, or NISS for short) has significantly improved the prediction of lung complications, intensive care needs and length of stay


    Arun Aneja, MD, of the University of Kentucky said: "This is the first time that we have combined external anatomical injury (NISS) parameters with internal injury physiological response (cytokine) parameters to determine the prognosis of trauma patients
