Maintenance of collections of succulent plants can be problematic, because many of these species are very susceptible to rots caused by bacteria and fungi. Rooting and establishment of cuttings can also be difficult. Tissue-culture techniques have been applied to a wide range of succulents, and the relevant literature has recently been reviewed (

). Here we describe methods for the micropropagation of cacti and other succulents that have been developed at Kew for overcoming the problems mentioned above.
