According to the US Food Safety News Network, according to the Netherlands National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), the number of foodborne disease outbreaks
in the Netherlands exceeded 800 in 2021.

It is understood that a total of 838 outbreaks were reported in 2021, affecting 3,517 people
.
This is an increase compared to 2020 (559 outbreaks, 1,907 people affected) and higher than in 2018 (735 outbreaks) and 2019 (756 outbreaks).

Salmonella and Campylobacter remained responsible for
most disease outbreaks last year.
For the second consecutive year, the number of noroviruses reported was much lower than in previous years
