Sometimes medical care requires a surgeon to implant a device, such as a tube, to drain a wound or bladder, or to deliver medication directly into the bloodstream

To develop an easy-to-use coating, the team screened a number of constituent components that they could apply to a surface in a single step

The new coating formulation effectively blocked microbes when exposed to more than 28 days of eight of the most common bacteria that cause serious infections
