On May 20, 2019, IBM announced new services and capabilities for IBM Z® to further position it as the central point of a secure hybrid cloud strategy
Expand application portfolio
In the spirit of building more flexibility on System Z, IBM is announcing IBM z/OS Container Extensions, designed to modernize and scale z/OS applications
With the z/OS container extension, customers will be able to access the latest Linux development tools and processes available on the Z ecosystem, giving developers the flexibility to build and deploy new cloud-native containerized applications to z/OS on, without the need for Linux or a Linux partition
Enhance common cloud development and management experience
IBM will launch IBM z/OS ® Cloud Broker, which enables users to access and deploy z/OS resources and services on IBM's private cloud for a more seamless and universal cloud development experience
As a result, customers get a design that simplifies management and access to key enterprise services: IBM z/OS Cloud Broker provides a single control plane across z/OS, Linux on z, Power and public clouds
Of course, choice and control are critical in today's hybrid and multi-cloud environments
For example, Hyper Protect Database as a Service (DBaaS) will be available next month
One of IBM's goals is to enable clients to manage the hybrid cloud platforms they rely on end-to-end
IBM sees secure hybrid and multi-cloud technologies as the future of enterprise information technology, and IBM z is at the heart of that
