At 16:00 local time on the 18th, the IAEA technical working group held an online press conference in Japan to introduce the investigation to Fukushima
To emphasize the impartiality and transparency of IAEA reviews, the newly established working group is composed of staff from various IAEA departments and laboratories and 11 members from Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, France, the Marshall Islands, South Korea, Russia, Experts with different professional backgrounds from the UK, US and Vietnam
From the 15th to the 16th, the technical working group went to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant to conduct an on-site investigation, and discussed various specific issues such as the nuclear-contaminated water discharge plan and the safety of nuclear-contaminated water with Tokyo Electric Power Company and related parties in Japan.
In April 2021, the Japanese government officially decided to discharge the nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea starting around the spring of 2023, and announced a detailed plan for the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the sea in December last year
