January 7, 2021 // -- If you're like the vast majority of U.S. adults, you don't get enough sleep; the new year may be the beginning of a change; the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that adults get at least seven hours of sleep a night; and in a July survey, researchers found that 85 percent of U.S. adults get less sleep.
researcher Kannan Ramar said: 'Our findings suggest a worrying trend towards sleep deprivation across the population, which increases the risk of multiple public health epidemics, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, so we must incorporate healthy sleep habits and procedures into our daily lives so that our bodies are at their best by 2021.'

sleep of less than seven hours a night may increase an individual's risk of multiple diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and recurrent mental illness.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine survey also found that 68 percent of participants tend to lose sleep from drinking before sleep; 88 percent say they stay up late chasing shows or watching videos; about 66 percent stay up late reading; 58 percent watch sports; and 50 percent choose to play video games.
about 22 percent said they had worse sleep as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, and 19 percent said they had less sleep each night.
In order to sleep better in 2021, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends setting a sleep time that gives us plenty of time to sleep so that we can wake up feeling refreshed; develop a calm nighttime habit that includes reading, writing a diary or meditating; and limit noise and disturbance as much as possible in the bedroom, which should be quiet, dark and cool.
if you have difficulty falling asleep on time, avoid drinking before bed, coffee after lunch, sugary foods at night, and eat less snacks at night.
At the same time, we should also consider turning off electronic devices 30 minutes to an hour before bedtime, and finally, researcher Lamar said that while many Americans no longer commute to and from work, it is particularly important to establish and maintain morning and bedtime habits, such as getting up regularly and going to bed to get enough sleep, which is critical to maintaining the body's health.
