On 3 January, the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of the HKSAR Government announced that the outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in parts of the United States, France and Poland, as notified by the World Organisation for Animal Health and the Polish Veterinary Inspection Service, and the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in parts of Japan, according to the notification of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the CFS immediately instructed the industry to suspend the import of poultry meat and poultry products (including eggs) from the relevant areas to protect public health
