Chile's Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) reported on the afternoon of December 8 that a white pelican
carrying a variant of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza was found in Iquique and Antofagasta.

According to Chile's ADN radio, SAG said that so far, H5N1 transmission has been limited to wild birds and has not affected poultry
    .
The analysis said that H5N1 will migrate into Chile
    through wild birds.

"Since wild birds are infected with H5N1, the situation will not affect poultry consumption or poultry exports
    .
" SAG added, "However, given the complex situation that H5N1 poses in Latin America, SAG has established a well-established public-private partnership system to mitigate its possible negative impact
    on the poultry production matrix.
    " ”

It is understood that after the first H5N1 case was reported in Latin America, SAG has been strengthening surveillance efforts and activating an alert system
    throughout Chile.
At present, many Latin American countries such as Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela have successively reported H5N1
    .

The SAG appealed to the public: "Do not touch or handle sick or dead birds and promptly report their presence
    to the relevant authorities.
" "Contact channels include calling 223451100/+56969089780 or sending an email to oficina.
