The daily newspaper Die Rheinpfalz in the Palatinate region of southwestern Germany recently published an article
about the severe impact of climate change on coffee growers in Vietnam.
Germany is currently the largest export market
    for Robusta coffee in Vietnam.

A reporter from the Vietnam News Agency in Germany quoted an article as saying that irrigation water in Vietnam's western plains is becoming increasingly scarce
due to the long-term effects of climate change.
The erratic weather is not suitable for all stages of coffee growth, resulting in a decline in coffee production and quality, so coffee exports, mainly in the European market, continue to decline
    .
    Vietnam's coffee exports reached 1.
88 million tons in 2018, fell to 1.
61 million tons in 2019, continued to decline to 1.
57 million tons in 2020, and fell to 1.
    52 million tons
    last year.

The article said that at present, Vietnamese authorities and non-governmental organizations are working to find solutions to improve the resilience of Vietnam's coffee industry and promote the sustainable development
    of the coffee industry.
Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development launched a coffee replanting project for the period 2021-2025 and replanted new varieties
that are more resistant to pests and diseases and more resilient to climate change on about 107,000 hectares of coffee plantation.

Coffee grows well in Vietnam's highlands bordering Cambodia and Laos, where around 1.
5 million people are engaged in coffee production
    alone.
Vietnam is currently the second largest coffee producer in the world (after Brazil) and the world's largest producer of
    Robusta coffee.
Vietnamese coffee is consumed in about 80 countries around the world, and 40% of Vietnam's coffee production is exported to Europe
    .
Germany is the most important export market, accounting for 15%
of Vietnam's total coffee exports in 2021.
According to the German Federal Statistical Office, in 2021, Germany imported 1.
21 million tons of coffee, of
which 17% was imported from Vietnam.
