"Heading is a fundamental part of football
This study conducted a two-season follow-up survey of eight football players aged 14 and 15 years old
Head impact exposure is quantified by the peak head movement and the number of impacts or impact rate per player per hour
Researchers found that in technical training, team interactions, and competitions, there are similar amounts of contact between players
The researchers also observed the average rotational movement of the head, ranging from 500 square radians per second (rad/s2) to 1560 radians/s2.
Urban said: "If the goal is to reduce the number of head hits for young football players on the pitch, our research results show that the best way may be targeted technical training and how to allocate it within a season
One limitation of this study is that there are very few participants
The research was partially supported by the Childress Child Trauma Institute
