For the first time, the co-local distribution of snow leopards and leopards has been recorded in the Tongtian River Basin of the source of the Three Rivers
For the first time, the same distribution of snow leopards and leopards was recorded in the Tongtian River Basin of the source of three rivers for the first time.

China News Service, Xining, October 12 (Li Jiangning) According to information from the Shanshui Nature Conservation Center on the 12th, the first record was recorded in Yunta Village, Haxiu Township, Haxiu Township, Tongtian River in the biodiversity monitoring work of the agency and Yushu City.
The phenomenon of the co-distribution of snow leopards and leopards in the same region has filled the gap in the distribution of snow leopards and leopards in the same region in the Tongtian River Basin
    .

Snow leopards are known as the king of snowy mountains.
They are mainly active in areas such as bare rock near the snow line.
They are the top predator and flagship species of alpine ecosystems.
Leopards mainly live in forests and are the top predators of forest ecosystems
    .

Monitoring showed that in front of the same infrared camera, a male leopard walked slowly on September 6 this year, and on July 13 not long ago, a snow leopard was also pacing in front of the camera
    .

According to reports, with the gradual advancement of monitoring work, teams from the Shanshui Nature Conservation Center and the Nature Conservation and Social Development Research Center of Peking University have successively been in Angsai Township, Zaduo County, Zaduo County, Qinghai Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, in the Lancang River Basin, and Dingqing County, Tibet, in the Nujiang River Basin.
Both snow leopards and golden leopards have been recorded in the same region
    .

The Tongtian River is located in the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sanjiangyuan.
The Tuotuo River, which originated from the Jianggendiru glacier in Gladandong, was called the Tongtian River when it merged with Dangqu.
It was called the Jinsha River after entering Sichuan from the Batang River Estuary, with a total length of 813 Kilometers
    .

The average elevation of the Tongtian River is about 4500 meters.

"This provides a suitable habitat for leopards, and with the impact of climate change and other factors, leopards are increasingly frequent in high-altitude areas
    .

" said Zhao Xiang, director of conservation of the Shanshui Nature Conservation Center

Researchers are currently analyzing the co-local distribution of snow leopards and leopards, such as altitude, habitat, and food habits, to further increase their understanding of these two top carnivores
    .

"As the top carnivores in the ecosystem, the existence of snow leopards and leopards indicates that there is enough food along the Tongtian Riverside to support these large carnivores and have a complete and healthy ecosystem
    .

    " Zhao Xiang told reporters

Located along the Tongtian River, Yunta Village, Haxiu Township, Yushu City, began biodiversity monitoring in 2013.
Nearly 30 infrared cameras have been deployed in the village according to a 5X5 km grid.
At least 23 individual snow leopards have been identified.
And many rare species such as horse musk deer, white-lipped deer, brown bear and lynx
