Multiple primary lung cancer (MPLC) is a special type of lung cancer, first proposed by Martini and Melamed in 1975 , and divided into synchronous multiple primary lung cancer (sMPLC) and asynchronous multiple primary lung cancer .

Computed tomography (CT) is the imaging method of choice for locating lesions and providing basic diagnostic information for lung cancer
Recently, a study published in the European Radiology journal explored the relationship between the imaging classification, gene mutation status and surgical prognosis of sMPLC, providing a valuable reference for further treatment and evaluation of this type of patients .
This study evaluated 192 patients with sMPLC from January 2013 to October 2019 .
In 192 patients, all lesions that were pathologically confirmed or highly suspected to be tumors based on imaging findings were retrospectively analyzed, and CT results of sMPLC were classified into three types
(I) All lesions manifested as solid nodules/masses (14.
(II) All lesions presented as subsolid nodules/masses (43.
(III) Tumor lesions showed a combination of 2 or more of the following patterns: solid nodule/mass, subsolid nodule/mass, cystic cavity and local consolidation (42.
For 252 tumors tested for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, subsolid tumors exhibited higher EGFR mutation rates than solid tumors (P < 0.
In conclusion, subsolid lesions are the most common imaging manifestations of sMPLC, and there may be genetic heterogeneity of driver mutations among sMPLCs
