In a large-scale analysis of cancer-specific mortality (CSM) in patients with T1a renal cell carcinoma (RCC), there are very few large-scale analyses of local tumor destruction (LTD) relative to partial nephrectomy (PN)
Recently, researchers from Italy published an article in "Eur Urol Focus" comparing CSM after LTD and PN
We identified patients with clinical stage T1a RCC treated with LTD or PN in the SEER database (2004-2018) and performed a 1:1 ratio propensity score matching (PSM) between patients treated with LTD and PN.
Compared with 35984 PN patients, 5936 LTD patients were older and had more unknown histological subtypes or grades of RCC
Adjusted cancer-specific survival
In conclusion, in patients with T1a RCC, LTD relative to PN always had higher CSM when adjusted for OCM and all available patient and tumor characteristics, and regardless of tumor size
