People who eat more blueberries and apples have a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a study published recently by US researchers However, the researchers also pointed out that this study only showed the association between the two fruits and the risk of diabetes, which does not mean that eating the two fruits can prevent type II diabetes In the study, funded by the National Institutes of health, researchers at the Harvard School of public health followed the eating habits of about 200000 health professionals for nearly 24 years The subjects need to complete the questionnaire regularly to answer their consumption of certain foods and drinks None of the subjects had diabetes before the start of the study However, during the study period, a total of 12600 people reported type II diabetes Excluding other factors, the researchers found that those who ate the most blueberries (i.e., at least 456 grams of blueberries per week) had a 23% lower risk of type 2 diabetes than those who ate the least blueberries (less than 114 grams per month) People who ate at least five apples a week had a 23% lower risk of type 2 diabetes than those who did not.
