Somost Comprehensive Phase-Out Program
According to the company, NMP phase-out is part of DSM's most comprehensive phase-out program for toxic chemicals in its industry history, with the aim of phasing out all high-profile chemicals in finished products by 2025. DSM hopes to use its scientific and technological capabilities to work with partners throughout the value chain to develop sustainable NMP alternatives that continue to deliver the highest performance.
NMP has been a subject of increasing concern to industrial authorities and civil society around the world. This substance is commonly used throughout the coatings industry. The European Commission has named it a substance of high concern (SVHC) and added it to its LIST of RESTRICT substances in the REACH Annex XVII. In the EU, after 9 May 2020, NMP will be restricted to mixtures with concentrations equal to or greater than 0.3%.
