Recently, Royal DSM announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with German leather additive solutions provider Dre to promote the sustainable development of the leather coating market.
DSM, Derry is a global company that provides specialty additives to the leather industry and its related industries. The strategic cooperation agreement signed by the two sides aims to promote the development of the market for sustainable leather

. DSM has extensive experience in the development of sustainable coating solutions, Derry has expertise in leather application technology and understands the needs of the leather industry. By working together at different parts of the value chain, DSM and Dre are able to further expand the market value of sustainable leather-coated products and strengthen their respective market positions.
special feature of this cooperation agreement is that it covers the supply and development of the current leading and sustainable water-based polyurethane dispersion (PUD) system. As the global market for leather-coated products has largely shifted to water-based PUD systems, Dre and DSM are committed to developing next-generation, sustainable PUD solutions based on renewable raw materials. Previously, DSM's Resin and Functional Materials Department had pledged to ensure that at least 30% of raw materials came from bio-based or recyclable materials by 2030. Dre has an in-depth understanding of the customer needs of the leather industry and, in combination with the PUD system developed by DSM, provides sustainable finishing coatings with excellent durability, good technical properties and chemical resistance.
