Low frequency intermittent fasting suggests anti-inflammatory response
A new study by researchers at the Intermountain Healthcare Heart Institute in Salt Lake City shows that intermittent fasting may not only be a popular dieting trend, but also have broader health benefits, including helping fight inflammation
Previous studies have shown that intermittent fasting (a diet pattern that cycles between fasting and eating) may improve health indicators that are not related to weight
"Inflammation is associated with a high risk of many chronic diseases, including diabetes and heart disease
The results of this study were announced at the American Heart Association's 2021 scientific conference on Saturday, November 13, which was held virtually this year
These results are part of Intermountain's fantastic experiment on intermittent fasting, which found that intermittent fasting can lead to a decrease in the metabolic syndrome score (MSS) and insulin resistance
This particular study investigated 67 patients between the ages of 21 and 70, all of whom had at least one characteristic of metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes
Of the 67 patients in the study, 36 were prescribed an intermittent fasting plan: two days a week, 24 hours a day, drinking only water, fasting for four weeks, and then once a week, 24 hours only drinking water, fasting 22 Week
After 26 weeks, the researchers measured the participants' galectin-3 and found that the participants in the intermittent fasting group had higher galectin-3
"Higher levels of galectin-3 were found in fasting patients.
"Unlike some IF diet plans that strictly promise miraculous weight loss, this is not an extreme form of fasting
